My thoughts on the server.
The server is very fun to play on, the mods add to this fun but also make it a bit harder. Sounds weird when i say that but hear me out. The mods make the game easier for new people that come on the server, easier to get a base started get weapons ect. On the other hand though it creates a bigger imbalance as you get a few days into the wipe. Once you have been on for a couple days and have been farming most of those days you can have a huge ass base like the one i made. Only took me like 2-3 days to build.
I was thinking maybe you could remove most of the plugins like remove,tp,map(rust io i think),gather manager, betterloot to try and make it more vanillaish.
What i would like to keep stack size but make size like 2k. Starting kit maybe add a torch 🙂 friends is handy for the PMs. Maybe go to half craft instead of insta.
But thats just my thoughts, i do like it how it is but just find it a bit too easy.
Yeah I am also becoming interested in the vanilla settings since our builds got so massive, and have started playing on a vanilla server. What interests me though is that although the bases might take longer to build and be smaller, surely the explosives also take proportionally longer to craft? I do like the idea of the end game taking longer though, it got a bit boring just a few days after the wipe, and now we are very overpowered again in comparison to new players, even though we broke up the teams.
About the explosives while it may take a bit long to get them in terms of getting the tech trash (as with no betterloot it will not spawn in barrels/creates) it will make getting those weapon creates in the monuments more valuable in turn making people go there giving more opportunities for pvp.
Which adds another point i never put in my OP. PVP or the lack of.
I believe the map at the moment is 4k in size while that isnt so big. It does pose the challenge of finding people or base a bit harder. With the pop size as it is maybe 3-3.5k map would be better suited. Still big enough for the pop size to find a quiet place to build put also small enough to not spend most of you time looking for pvp.
We are seeing more new people joining the server but currently it is still about 5-7 people on at peak times.
I propose next wipe trying some of this and myself and Kami (totally just volunteering you :P) can ask the regular people that join what they think of the changes, if its too much, what they think should be added back ect. As a two week wipe cycle is not that bad for testing the changes.
Personally I am pretty new to Rust, and I'm not really fully aware of the ramifications of a vanilla Rust are, and linked to that I'm not fully up on what mods are currently present and what they all do. With that in mind, and coupled with the fact that our community is young and experimenting on the pvp, my personal preference would be to give vanilla a go for the two weeks post wipe and see how it goes. My gut feeling is that I will prefer it as I prefer the early developmental stages of the game post wipe, but until we have all tried together I can't be sure 🙂
Some feedback from Marchos:
「猫」 Marchosias the Mad Scientist: Is it set already? I wouldnt really mind making the server a little more vanillaish, otherwise i'd be pretty annoyed if i would have to walk everywhere. I dont have anything against removing the TP plugin but i would like to keep at least the Homes on the server ( I know that they might come in conflict with raiding due to them being completly op for getting out of bases. Im sure that there are some reasonable solutions on fixing that )
KamikazeKenny: No nothing is set in stone yet, although I see that Mr Luigi has replied suggesting making it vanilla and looking for feedback. I will cut and paste your message onto the board unless you would prefer to pen your own reply?
「猫」 Marchosias the Mad Scientist: Thank you, that would be awesome ^^
「猫」 Marchosias the Mad Scientist: But like i said, i wouldnt really mind giving vanilla a try
